Former Go-Go's bassist, Kathy Valentine is suing her former bandmates, claiming that the four other musicians are attempting to "deprive her" of her 20 percent share of the group's revenues. The Hollywood Reporter posted that according to Valentine's complaint filed on May 24th with the Los Angeles Superior Court, she is seeking he fifth of revenues collected by the two entities authorized to conduct the Go-Go's business -- Ladyhead LLC and Smith-Pocket Industries, Inc. In March, the Go-Go's released a statement that Valentine and the band had parted ways. No explanation was given.
According to Valentine's complaint, her former bandmates Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, and Gina Schock have formed a new company -- GoGoCo Corp. -- in order to use their majority voting block of Ladyhead LLC to, quote, "license the band's name, brand and trademark" to the new company and "freeze out" Valentine from the group's upcoming tour and revenues. Valentine alleges that the should the plan go through it would drastically reduce her take in the band's profits from 20 percent to only two percent, costing her "substantially more" than $1 million dollars in losses.
Guitarist Jane Wiedlin told us that over the years, the Go-Go's tended to operate in far more sensitive words due to having five female members in the group: "Y'know, I think men and woman relate really different from each other, and let's face it, most bands are men -- I'm sure I'll get hate mail for that, but it's true. So, I just think that maybe men are just better at just stuffing their feelings down and just getting on with it and not really caring. And I think women are way more about having to discuss every little feeling that we have and having to be honest. And it's like, uh. . . womany stuff."
