Paul McCartney Launches 'Out There' World Tour This Weekend
Paul McCartney kicks off his 2013 Out There world tour at Belo Horizonte, Brazil's Mineirao Stadium. The trek, which will stretch though the August 14th closer in Regina, Saskatchewan, will take in stops throughout the U.S. and Canada -- along with shows set for Poland, Italy, and Austria. Unconfirmed rumors and fan reports have McCartney recently dipping into his Wings catalogue for a reprise of such fan favorites as the classic opening medley "Venus And Mars/Rock Show/Jet," "Letting Go," "Magneto And Titanium Man," "Listen To What The Man Said," his first-ever live version of Wings' 1978 chart-topper, "With A Little Luck," along with George Harrison's 1970 solo classic, "All Things Must Pass" -- which McCartney last performed live in 2004.
Paul McCartney admitted that his pre-show soundchecks have always been a highlight of being out on the road: "I mean, really, all we have to do is check the instruments -- but if we just check them, we'd get bored. So, we've got enough numbers to kind of throw some in, and then if they start to sound really good -- 'Oh, we'll stick that in the show!' But it does become its own little thing. And what happens is, some of the people that come to the show buy a special ticket and come to this one. Y'know, we wanna try and entertain them."
McCartney says that his live shows are a way to celebrate his Beatles music with his fans in a way he never could once the group quit touring: "And I think it was all down to the audience. Revisiting all those people out there. And getting the thrill of seeing the couple necking in the middle of 'Let It Be,' or all those cigarette lighters they hold up during songs they feel particularly strongly about."
McCartney's longtime band includes 25-year-veteran Paul "Wix" Wickens on keyboards, Rusty Anderson on lead guitar, Abe Laboriel, Jr. on drums, and Brian Ray on rhythm guitar and bass.
