Fleetwood Mac Releases First New Music In A Decade
Out now is Fleetwood Mac's new Extended Play EP, featuring the first new music from the band in a decade. Three of the four tracks -- the Lindsey Buckingham-written, "Sad Angel," "It Takes Time" and "Miss Fantasy," were co-produced by Buckingham and studio veteran Mitchell Froom. The fourth track is a vintage Stevie Nicks song -- "Without You" -- which was produced by Buckingham and Nicks and is a remake of an early Buckingham Nicks track that was slotted for the duo's planned second album. The track was long forgotten by the pair until Nicks rediscovered the song via YouTube.

Rolling Stone quoted Lindsey Buckingham as saying, "We all felt that it would be great to go into the studio and record new material before embarking on this tour and the result has been remarkable -- our best group of songs in a long time. It's a work in progress but we're so enthused by what we've done that we thought we'd share some of it with our fans in the form of an EP now. . . We're performing two cuts, 'Sad Angel' and 'Without You' in the show and the response has been terrific."

When we last caught up with Buckingham, he told us that in regards to releasing his solo material, he's seriously considering bypassing record labels all together: "I'm probably almost at that point where I could sell it off the website and, y'know, not give away 80 percent of each album to a company and probably reach (laughs) close to the same number of people and make some money on it, y'know?"

Mick Fleetwood told us that being able to dip into their vault of unreleased material alongside working up new songs is a blessing for any band: "That's part of the advantage of having a broad-based deep catalogue that we have and being one of those bands that has got underneath that wire where within reason, we're not gonna go away in my lifetime. It would've already happened and it hasn't. So you're underneath that fence and you're on the other side in an area that's a privilege to be in."

Fleetwood Mac performs tonight (May 1st) at Tulsa, Oklahoma's BOK Center.
