Monday, April 22, 2013
Neil Diamond appeared at Boston's Fenway Park on Saturday (April 20th) to lead the hometown crowd in a sing-a-long of his classic 1969 Top Five hit, "Sweet Caroline." The tune, which Boston has played during every eighth-inning since 2002 was played at every Major League Park in solidarity with the city in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing. Diamond flew in especially to sing to the Beantown crowd for the first game at Fenway following the tragedy. Diamond told The Los Angeles Times: "What resonates for me tonight is the way music can offer comfort to people in times of joy or sorrow. With a tragedy like this, there are no words, but if people can find healing in music, this is the reason I've been doing this for the last 50 years. It goes beyond what I ever imagined."
