John Cusack is in talks to portray Brian Wilson in the upcoming biopic, Love And Mercy, based on the troubled Beach Boy's life, according to The Wrap. The film will also star Paul Dano, best known for his role in Little Miss Sunshine, who will portray Wilson in his younger days. Love And Mercy -- named after the 1988 Wilson classic -- will be directed by Bill Pohlad, best known for serving as producer on Brokeback Mountain. Love And Mercy was written by Oren Moverman, who co-wrote the groundbreaking Bob Dylan movie, I'm Not There.
Wilson and Jeff Beck are serving as instructors at this week's spring Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas, which kicked off yesterday (April 18th) and runs through Sunday (April 21st) at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and the camp's facility located west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Wilson is joined by the key members of his backing band of nearly 15 years -- including musical director and guitarist Jeff Foskett, keyboardist Darian Sahanaja, and multi-instrumentalists Probyn Gregory and Scott Bennett.
Brian Wilson, who is the lone survivor of his immediate family -- including his younger brothers and bandmates Carl and Dennis Wilson -- carries the weight of the Wilson's musical legacy on his shoulders. We asked him, if knowing what he knows now about life, what he would've said to the 24-year-old kid writing and producing the Beach Boys' Smile: "I woulda said, 'Don't take any more drugs!' I would say, 'Stop taking drugs!' -- if I was able to talk to myself when I was 24, but I can't."
