Quick Takes On Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Sammy Hagar
Billy Joel is building Bruce Springsteen a motorcycle. Billy explained to Cycle World how his Oyster Bay, Long Island shop, 20th Century Cycles, got the nod from "The Boss" to build him his new bike: "Bruce is always looking for a character bike. I told him about our shop, so he came down in the middle of winter. It's freezing -- minus five degrees -- and he wants to take out my Sacred Cow bobber. I said, 'Are you crazy?' It's so cold, and he had no gear, just a helmet. After a ride, he came back and said, 'I want you to build me that bike.' So he gave us the specs, and we're almost finished with it. It started out as a Kawasaki W650. The frame is black and the tank will be metal flake gold. Man, he's hardcore." (Ultimate Classic Rock)
The Rolling Stones have finally announced the opening night show of their upcoming 50 & Counting Tour. The band will kick off the dates on Thursday, May 2nd, at L.A.'s Staples Center. When the band announced the initial North American dates last week, they needed to keep the Staples concert TBA due to pending NBA and NHL playoff schedules.
During Fleetwood Mac's April 6th concert at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, Lindsey Buckingham revealed that the first new material from the band in a decade is coming imminently. While introducing the new track, "Sad Angel," Buckingham told the crowd: "One of the things we thought would be a good idea before we hit the road would be to go into the studio and cut some new material. So last year we did that. It's the best stuff we've done in a long time and in a few days we're going to drop an EP of new stuff." No firm release date for the EP has been announced. Sammy Hagar says that he'd be up for hanging with Eddie Van Halen once again. Hagar, who last fronted Van Halen back in 2005, has been at odds with Eddie and Alex Van Halen since, but was asked what he would say to Eddie if he had the chance and responded in part, "Well, right now I'd say, 'Wow. Great. I've seen some pictures of you recently. You look like you're healthy and doing great. I'm really proud of you and I'd like to see you continue doing that. Here's my phone number. Call me up if you wanna hang and just have some fun and goof off.' And whatever that led to, I wouldn't say, 'Hey, let's get together and do it again,' because you would have to do that slow, because I would never do it again under the last circumstances. But I would do it again under different circumstances. So it'd be like that. And then I would also say. 'And also here's Mikey's (Anthony) phone numbers with mine.'" (Blabbermouth)
