The Rolling Stones Gearing Up For A Busy Spring And Summer
With the Rolling Stones officially back in business with a portion of their 2013 itinerary finally announced, the band is gearing up for a busy spring and summer. Keith Richards told the BBC, "It's going to be a great summer -- all the gigs we haven't done or wanted to redo are popping up." Mick Jagger says that he's concerned about the band's summer gig at UK's legendary Glastonbury festival, admitting, "It's quite a difficult gig. U2 had terrible weather and that didn't help. You have to learn from their experiences."
Charlie Watts, who's never been one to pull any punches, told The Guardian, that he's hardly looking forward to the Stones' return to London's Hyde Park for their first concert there since July 5th, 1969: "I don't want to do it. Everyone else does. I don't like playing outdoors, and I certainly don't like festivals. The worst thing playing outdoors is when the wind blows, if you're a drummer, because the cymbals move. . . It is really hard to play then."
Ron Wood, who is perhaps the bandmember who was pushing for the band to get back on the road the hardest, told The Sun: "I never thought the Stones would do it, to be quite honest. But it's come to fruition and it's very pleasing."
Ron Wood -- who first recorded with the Stones 39 years ago, and undertook his first tour with them the year after -- is still considered the "new guy" in the band. He told us that he was actually born a Rolling Stone, and it simply took until 1975 for him to actually become part of the group: "I was born with those songs in my mouth, anyway. Y'know, you can name any song of their. . . And I was with it, y'know, I didn't have to learn it. When I joined the band back in, '74, or whenever and I had to learn 160 songs, or something -- that was my initiation down in Woodstock -- I ended up teaching them to the band! I mean, I knew the songs. I'd never played them before, but I just knew them."
