Bon Jovi's new album, What About Now, has scored the New Jersey rockers their fifth Number One album -- and third back-to-back chart-topper. Billboard reported that according to Nielsen SoundScan the new set, which is Bon Jovi's 12 studio album, sold 101,000 copies in its first week out, but marks the least amount of first-week copies sold since the band's 1995 collection, These Days, which sold 73,000 copies its first week out when it debuted at Number Nine.
Coming in at Number Two is David Bowie's The Next Day -- which debuted at Number One in the UK, blocking Bon Jovi's What About Now from the top spot. Bowie's new studio set, which is his first in nearly a decade, sold 85,000 copies and marks Bowie's seventh U.S. Top 10 album.
Although What About Now still deals with the lives and concerns of Bon Jovi's core fan-base -- guitarist Richie Sambora told us that it also takes on a global slant, as well: "The record has a lot of themes that were kind of -- what was happening in the world kind of pushed this record out. Y'know, guys like us, we travel around the world, y'know, our last tour was about 52 countries. And the different economic situations that were happening all over the world, and how people were -- more importantly -- reacting to them personally -- we started feeling those undercurrents all the way back then."
