First Van Halen US Dates Of 2013 Confirmed
Van Halen has not been seen on a stage since last spring, but along with a handful of Japanese dates and an Australian gig, the band has now confirmed its first U.S. show of 2013. The Van Halen clan and singer David Lee Roth will close out the annual Rock USA Festival, scheduled for July 17th through the 20th in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Other acts appearing at the event include Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold, Saliva, Chevelle, Great White, Sevendust and Dokken, with more to be announced.
Van Halen backed out of 31 North American dates last summer, citing exhaustion, and then Eddie Van Halen was sidelined for four-to-six months after undergoing surgery for the inflammatory intestinal affliction diverticulitis.
The band has been touring in support of its February 2012 release, A Different Kind Of Truth, which was its first album with Roth in 28 years. Bassist Wolfgang Van Halen told us how he feels about the disc a little over a year later: "I'm really, really proud of the record. I think it's a great record, and I think it really captures the old Van Halen sound because they're from demos of the older days, you know. I kind of wanted to put Dad (Eddie Van Halen, guitarist), Al (Van Halen, drummer) and Dave into the mindspace of when they wrote, like, 'Runnin' With The Devil' and 'Dance The Night Away' and stuff like that, you know. And I think we did a pretty good job."
While Van Halen has been inactive, Wolfgang has been touring with Tremonti, the solo band of Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti.
Roth recently gave an interview to Rolling Stone in which he expressed his desire to work on fresh material with Eddie Van Halen and tour outside the U.S., saying, "We have an audience and we have a potential future in many, many places . . . I don't know where the Van Halen future lies aside from the States."
