Bob Seger Debuts New Song And Returns Classic To Setlist
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's tour opener on February 27th in Toledo, Ohio was full of surprises -- mainly the debut of long awaited new material, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Seger took to the stage and opened with a one-two punch cover of John Hiatt's "Detroit Made," which slammed straight into Otis Clay's "Tryin' To Live My Life Without You." During the 24-song set, Seger touched on most of his greatest hits, including "Like A Rock" -- a tune absent from Seger's setlists over the last few years. Fans are still buzzing about the debut of the new song, "All The Roads," which will presumably be featured on Seger's next studio set, due out later this year. Also included in the setlist was Seger's take on Woodie Guthrie's "California Stars."
Seger has just added three new stops to the band's itinerary. The new shows will be April 18th in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania; April 23rd in Reading, Pennsylvania; and May 4th in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Bob Seger explained to us why he had originally retired "Like A Rock" from his live set: "We tried 'Like A Rock' real hard. It's. . . I just can't do that song because the last two choruses are so high. They're right in the same key of the highest part of 'Turn The Page' -- which I still do in the same key that the record is, 'Turn The Page.' But the highest part of 'Turn The Page,' which is at the very end. Both those choruses on 'Like A Rock,' the two final choruses are (laughs) and Don kinda looked at me, like, 'We don't have to do this song' (laughs) Y'know, Don Brewer was having mercy on me! (laughs) I said, 'Yknow, you're right Don, let's not do this song.'"
