John Fogerty will release his long-awaited duets collection, Wrote A Song For Everyone, on May 28th. The album, which has been several years in the making, features high profile collaborations on Fogerty's classic songs -- including many of his Creedence Clearwater Revival standards. Highlights on the set include Bob Seger on "Who'll Stop The Rain," "Fortunate Son" with Foo Fighters, "Lodi" with Fogerty's sons Shane and Tyler -- along with "Born On The Bayou" with Kid Rock, which was used by NFL Network in their coverage of last weekend's Super Bowl. Other contributors include My Morning Jacket, Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Tom Morello, Jennifer Hudson, and Allen Toussaint.
Fogerty talked about the album to American Songwriter, explaining, "I encouraged each of these artists to come up with their own vision of my song, rather than just redoing what I'd recorded in the past. I was hoping they'd have some different twist so it would be fresh, so I'd have to work, too. I wanted it to be something new."
Since he returned to performing his Creedence classics in concert over 15 years ago, John Fogerty has maintained that the songs are able to reflect his past while staying a part of his future: "I sure don't want to be a 'retro' person at all. Y'know, that's one of the reasons I never wanted to tour under the name Creedence Clearwater -- whatever. Those days are long, long, gone, and I'm just too current and competitive -- I mean, I have things to do now."
