Barry Manilow Back On Broadway For Month Long Run
Barry Manilow is back on Broadway at the St. James Theatre for his first extended run in nearly 25 years. Vintage Vinyl News reported that the stand, which kicked off on January 18th, was originally set to wrap on February 9th, but now due to popular demand, has now been extended through February 23rd.
The 2013 Manilow On Broadway shows, which heavily feature the hits from Manilow's '70s and early-'80s heyday, follow the Brooklyn native's 1989 run Barry Manilow At The Gershwin and his first stand on "The Great White Way" back in 1976-1977 with Barry Manilow On Broadway.
Barry Manilow told us that, above all else, the key to his longevity as a live performer is basically due to great material: "All of the songs that I've recorded, whether I've written them myself or other people have written it, somehow they are really well written songs that seem to stand the test of time. I never get tired of them. It feels like I just either wrote them or recorded them."
Manilow admitted to us that that he never expected after all these years to still be performing nightly to sell out audiences: "I'm always surprised that there's anybody sitting out there. By this time, I always figured that they would've given up on me years ago. Really -- years ago! I don't understand how this is still happening. I'm a very grateful man, but I don't understand it."
