John Fogerty Prepping Autobiography
John Fogerty has signed with publishers Little, Brown and Company to write his autobiography, due out in 2014. According to the press release, Fogerty's book will examine his days as the principal songwriter and producer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, along with his take on dealing with the "pressures of sudden fame, his tumultuous relationships with his bandmates -- including his brother, Tom (Fogerty) and his long and costly battle for creative freedom from his record label, a battle that was taken all the way to the Supreme Court."
Fogerty said about the upcoming memoir: "The kid from El Cerrito wanted to be the best musician in the world -- my promise to myself. I accomplished that goal against all odds, only to have it fall apart on top of me. The songs and the music stopped; you didn't hear from John Fogerty for years. All of this took its toll on me. I couldn't write a song, sing a song. And it was so hard on me, all of the lawsuits and betrayals. I was personally fading away. My story will share the ups and downs and how it all affected me. The road back was a bumpy one, and I knew that it would take years to come out of it, but I did. Happily, I did, with my dear wife, Julie, by my side."
He went on to say: "I have come to a place where I can look back and reflect on those stories and share what really happened. I am the guy who lived it, and you will hear me tell the story for the first time."
Fogerty has pushed his eagerly anticipated duets collection, Wrote A Song For Everyone, from October 9th to sometime in early 2013. The album features new collaborations with the Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Kid Rock, and others.
John Fogerty told us that the guitar is still the be-all and end-all for him regarding rock n' roll: "That's mostly how it works for me, and that is also what I like to do. I like playing guitar, and it's fun trying to come up with a unique lick, y'know? Or, I like playing other people's licks. I mean, I just love playing. I still sit down and play 'Honky Tonk' and get a great big smile on my face."
