The Rolling Stones Planning Warm-up Club Gigs
Ron Wood let it slip that, as usual, the Rolling Stones will be playing few secret warm-up gigs prior to their four upcoming arena shows in London and New Jersey. Wood told NME, "There's going to be little club gigs that we're gonna surprise ourselves to do as well. We'll bung a few in next week or the week after, so look out for any Cockroaches gigs or whatever! I don't know who we'll be billed as, but we'll turn up somewhere and put a few to the test. Tiny, 200, 300 people kind of places."
Wood went on to say that the band is working overtime to make sure they're tight for their upcoming London and New Jersey shows: "We're all making a concentrated effort of being there on time every day. We start at three o'clock in the afternoon. We go through to dinnertime. We have one break and so far everything has been an operation, nose to the grindstone. We wanna give 200 percent."
Wood didn't specify what country the secret club shows would take place.
During the Stones' recent tours, they've made a concerted effort to play a variety of venues -- including stadiums, arenas, theaters -- and even clubs. Ron Wood told us that there's nothing more exciting than the Stones hitting the stage for a club gig: "Everybody's hot, it's rockin', it's steaming, and, y'know, it's rock n' roll, and anything goes. In the club, people can just let their hair down and just go with it."
