Ringo Starr Wraps All Star Tour With special guests in LA
Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band wrapped their summer tour on Saturday (July 21st) at L.A.'s Greek Theatre. Beatles Examiner reported that in addition to good friend and former producer Jeff Lynne, also joining Ringo on stage for a show closing medley of "With A Little Help From My Friends" and "Give Peace A Chance" were former All Starrs Peter Frampton, brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Gary Wright, Jim Keltner, and Edgar Winter. Also on hand was Micky Dolenz, Jack Bruce, former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, Paul Williams, Joe Walsh's daughter Lucy Walsh, Keith Allison of Paul Revere & The Raiders fame, and Harold And Maude actor, Bud Cort.
The 2012 All Starr Band included returning All Starrs Todd Rundgren, saxophonist Mark Rivera, Mr. Mister's Richard Page, and drummer Gregg Bissonette. New to Ringo's band were Santana and Journey co-founding keyboardist Gregg Rollie, and Toto's co-founding guitarist Steve Lukather.
Although known as one of the hardest partying jet-setters of the '70s and '80s; this year, Ringo celebrates his 23rd year of sobriety, and it's notable to consider that his entire career as a solo touring musician has taken place without any substances at all: "Y'know, it's interesting what happens with substance abuse, is that you forget why you're here, because the substance becomes too powerful. And then you realize, 'Oh man, I'm a musician!' And I play better straighter, where I just thought I played better (laughs) -- over the edge. But you don't."
