Pre-Beatles Ringo Starr Gig Set For Release Next Month
A newly discovered tape of Ringo Starr with his pre-Beatles band, Rory Storm & The Hurricanes will be released in England on September 17th. The set, called Live At The Jive Hive, features the band caught live in March 1960 -- a full year before they were the Beatles' main rivals in Liverpool. The 21-track collection features four home recordings -- including covers of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say," Elvis Presley's "Milk-Cow Blues," and the Everly Brothers "Cathy's Clown." The live tracks include the band's takes on Elvis' "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care," the Everly's' "Bye Bye Love," Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody" and "Somethin' Else," Little Richard's "Rip It Up," Carl Perkins' "Honey Don't," and Johnny Otis' "Willie And The Hand Jive," among others.

Ringo told us that he'll always have a Liverpudlian hometown tradition to thank for his legendary stage name: "Where I come from, in Liverpool, people get nicknames. And I was wearing a lot of rings. And first of all, they started calling me 'Rings.' And then when we went to Butlins Holiday Camp, we changed our names, we all took cowboy names, and I thought 'Ringo Starkey' wasn't quite cowboy enough, so I started calling myself 'Ringo Starr.' And I've been Ringo ever since."
