America has just added a bunch of fall dates to it's itinerary -- along with the band's first bookings of the New Year. After wrapping up their current string of summer dates, the band's back out on the road on September 20th in Winnie, Texas and plowing through to November 17th when they wrap up their 2012 shows in Bowling Green, Kentucky. America's 2013 dates kick off with a series of Canadian stops, beginning on January 18th, in North Bay, Ontario and -- as of now -- playing through January 26th in Oakville, Ontario.

 

Co-founders Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell say that although America is now a perfect fit for the many casino dates they play each year, it took their audience growing up and having more expendable incomes for the shows to become profitable for the casinos: "(Gerry Beckley): We did them very early on, but maybe once every couple of years we were in Vegas. So it's not like it was never a part, but it kicked in around 1980 and it has just gone through the roof." (Dewey Bunnell): "The odd thing about the casinos in the early days was that we had a younger audience, and we could fill that room, and the casino would be full of a bunch of long-hairs, but they wouldn't leave a dime on the tables or the machines. So the house would say, 'Well, you're great at selling tickets in to your show, but you're not helping us.'"

 

Dewey Bunnell says that over the years on the road, the band has learned to run a tight ship both on and off the stage: "We've grown up on the road and we know what we're supposed to be doing. The live show's matured. You take your responsibility a little more seriously. You have to take care of your voice. We wanna be able to do those songs justice every night. You don't wanna let down the team, I think we all appreciate that."
