The Beach Boys Release Live DVD, Eying 2013 Plans
Fresh off the recent Top Three success of their first new album in 20 years, the Beach Boys are weighing their options regarding carrying their out of the park reunion through next year. Their upcoming six-CD career spanning box set, Made In California, is scheduled for late November and will include a substantial amount of unreleased and remixed tracks, along with all of the band's greatest hits.
Out today (August 28th) on DVD and Blu-ray is The Beach Boys: Doin' It Again. The live and archival special, chronicling the Beach Boys' current 50th anniversary reunion tour, premiered in June on PBS affiliates as part of their Front Row Center series. The special features key Beach Boys classics caught live at several venues on the group's North American leg, including performance footage shot on May 2nd in St. Augustine, Florida.
Doin' It Again also features never before aired footage from the Beach Boys' 1966 "Good Vibrations" recording sessions -- as well as the 2012 sessions for their recent hit album, That's Why God Made The Radio. The doc features new and exclusive interviews from surviving Beach Boys Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Bruce Johnston.
Although the Beach Boys haven't announced any plans beyond their final tour dates next month in Britain, frontman Mike Love is optimistic that the surviving members will carry on in some fashion in 2013: "There's talk of another album, yeah. Y'know, the record company's completely stoked about how well this whole project has gone. There's the Grammys coming up next year and there's talk of us going back and doing a return to the Grammys and there's talk of doin' a new album together. So, we'll just have to see what happens in the future. There's nothin' definitely in stone, but there's a lot of ideas bein' floated around -- and there's been some very successful concerts. Y'know, 17-and-a-half thousand people at the Hollywood Bowl sold out and there's interest from promoters, obviously, 'cause that's how they make money."
The Beach Boys perform tonight (August 28th) in Boondall, Australia.
