Lynyrd Skynyrd are going strong and feeling the love with their new album, Last Of A Dyin' Breed -- which is their best charting studio set since 1977's Street Survivors collection. Last Of A Dyin' Breed debuted at Number 14 -- a marked improvement on 2009's Gods & Guns, which just made it into the Top 20 when it peaked at Number 18.
Guitarist Rickey Medlocke told us that over the past 40 years, Skynyrd has essentially become a genre unto itself: "I think that Lynyrd Skynyrd is actually a well-rounded, accepted band, and it's just kind of funny -- I think I got reprimanded here not too long ago when I said that all the country bands wanted to be Lynyrd Skynyrd, so, y'know, I'm sorry I said that but I meant it. How about that! The deal is I think we set the standards in a lot of stuff, the band did years ago, and still does today."
