Classic Rolling Stones Tracks Coming to 'Monday Night Football'
Starting tomorrow night (Monday, September 10th), ESPN will be commemorating the Rolling Stones' 50th Anniversary on Monday nights throughout the NFL season this fall with "Legend to Legend" -- a collaboration that will combine Monday Night Football highlights with the band's classic tracks. ESPN has licensed 16 Stones songs, spanning the band's 1972's Exile On Main Street album through 2005's A Bigger Bang. The songs will be a mix of popular hits and deep cuts, including 1974's "It's Only Rock 'N Roll," 1976's "Hot Stuff," and 1986's "One Hit (To The Body)."
Four different songs will be selected per month and will be used for four weeks at a time on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown pregame show, on bumpers and teases within the Monday Night Football game, and in a post-Monday Night Football game highlight segment on SportsCenter.
Back in 2006, prior to the Stones' Super Bowl Halftime show appearance, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards spoke about their knowledge of football and American sports during the customary pre-game press conference: (Jagger): "I lived in, in New York for a long time in the '70s and '80s, y'know, in those days, and I did follow football a lot. I mean, I go back -- I can remember Lynn Swann, I can remember him playing. But I must say, I haven't really been following football in recent years. I've been following soccer." (Richards): "Tiddlywinks is actually our sport." (Jagger): "That's Keith's game."
