Chicago Recording New Album While On The Road
Chicago is busy recording their upcoming album on the road. Co-founding keyboardist Robert Lamm revealed that the band is laying down tracks in hotels during their current dates, telling Ultimate Classic Rock, "Well, there's a bunch of songs written. We've tracked a few of them. We're essentially trying to record with 96-bit technology and all of the latest gear that we're traveling with. When there's a couple of days off, we can set the stuff up in a conference room in a hotel and not make too much noise. We have a coordinating producer who is an engineer, who basically takes the tracks and makes sense of them and we're working with Pro-Tools (on all of this)."

Lamm went on to say that there's no firm release date for the album and that they're not letting the confines of and 80-minute CD hold them back in the new digital age: "I think it's probably going to be another six months (of recording). There's a lot of music. We're not limiting ourselves by saying that we're only going to do 10 or 12 songs. Because really, CDs are not really the format of choice anymore, so there's no reason why we need to stop with just a handful of songs. So our intent is to just record as many songs as are there and listen down and see what makes the strongest statement. (We'll) probably just issue downloadable albums at first and then later maybe, physical CD's."

Robert Lamm is best known for writing such classics as "25 Or 6 To 4," "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?," "Saturday In The Park," "Beginnings," and "Questions 67 And 68," among others. He explained that pushing musical boundaries is sadly a thing in the past in terms of modern music: "That attitude of, y'know, 'There's nothing we can't try and make it work if we push hard enough.' It's kind of like taking a good idea and pushing it further and further and further, and, y'know, really taking it as far as you can possibly take it. That is so not a part of pop music. That attitude is so not a part of mainstream music nowadays."
