Bruce Spingsteen Gets Sales Bump Thanks To The Democrats
Bruce Springsteen is one musician more than happy to let a politician use his material. Billboard reported sales of "The Boss'" track "We Take Care Of Our Own" jumped an incredible 409 percent after being played during the Democratic National Convention following President Obama's speech. The song, which was the first single and lead track from Springsteen's most recent chart-topping set, Wrecking Ball, also helped the album gain a 37-percent sales jump with 3,000 new copies sold.

Steven Van Zandt explained that the songs on Wrecking Ball album serve as a sort of compass for the American ideal: "The particular subject of this record, perhaps Bruce's most pointed, focused, consistent record in terms of the message of it. I think in the past there have been many related ideas, but I've never heard them quite as, perhaps, focused as this record. Making a statement that the country really needed to hear."

Springsteen recalled that the night that Barack Obama was elected president in 2008 stands as one of the most meaningful of his life: "You spend 35 years singing your songs about a place. You see the country drifting further from democratic values, drifting further from a sense of. . . any fair sense of economic justice -- and you just keep singing your songs. And then a night comes when after 35 years, something happens that you didn't think you might see in your lifetime, which is that country, it actually shows its face one night -- the election night. You go, 'I don't believe it!'"
