Art Garfunkel has canceled the remainder of his 2012 concert due to continuing problems with his vocal cords, according to Vintage Vinyl News. Garfunkel, who had been sidelined from performing for two years due to vocal cord paralysis, made headlines last week after he blowing off two Swedish concerts last weekend and flying home to the U.S.
Garfunkel's reps issued a statement, which read:
Legendary singer and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Art Garfunkel has been forced to postpone the remaining 10 concerts he had scheduled for 2012. Since doctors discovered a weakened vocal cord in 2010, the singer has been working on mending his voice and is intent on making a full recovery.
Garfunkel regrets the disappointment to fans who bought tickets as well as the venues and promoters who worked to make these shows a success. "I had such hopes of being finally ready to perform. How painful to try and not be quite yet there," says Garfunkel. Manager John Scher says, "Art wants to perform, more than anything. He's going to come back stronger than ever."
Art Garfunkel revealed that in some ways, the loss of his voice has brought him and Paul Simon closer together: "Paul used the word 'God' now, for the first time in life. 'I find myself saying, 'Please God, let Artie's voice come back so we can do this thing one more time.' I find that so endearing, c'mon! It shows that the core of Simon & Garfunkel is a thing of beauty -- at the core."
