The Beach Boys Release New Single - Plus Live Classics
The first fruits from the wildly successful, but ultimately ill-fated, Beach Boys reunion tour are out via iTunes. The new four track EP for the band's new single "Isn't It Time" features three tunes recorded live during the band's Chicago stops this past May. In addition to the revamped -- and partially re-recorded -- version of "Isn't It Time" from the hit That's Why God Made The Radio album, the digital collection features in-concert versions of such Beach Boys classics as "California Girls," "Do It Again," and "Sail On Sailor."
"Do It Again" was the Beach Boys' final Top 20 hit of the '60s. Frontman Mike Love told us that it was easily the quickest and most organic of his and cousin Brian Wilson's collaborations from the latter part of the decade: "I came home from a surfin' trip with my high school buddies and was tellin' Brian about what a great day it was; the waves were great, it was great to be with my friends again, and stuff, and we sat down at the piano and started bangin' out somethin' and I came up with the words. Y'know, we just wrote that in about 15 minutes, y'know?"

Brian Wilson, who co-wrote the Beach Boys' 1973 classic "Sail On Sailor," and has been performing it live during his solo shows for the better part of the last decade, says that despite it obviously being a fan favorite and a definite highlight of all the concerts, he's never actually enjoyed singing it: "Y'know what that song is? That song is a bunch of gibberish. That song is filled of lyrics that I don't like to sing. (Sings) 'Persevering, always fearing, never clearing, all my dying, all my sighing. . .' I mean it's such a negative song. I don't like singing those lyrics at all."
