Some Quick Takes On Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones And Barry Gibb
Lynyrd Skynyrd has abandoned the use of the Confederate Flag on its "stages, logos, t-shirts, and other tour merchandise." Sole serving co-founder Gary Rossington told CNN: "Through the years, people like the KKK and skinheads kinda kidnapped the Dixie or Southern flag from its tradition and the heritage of the soldiers. That's what it's all about. We didn't want that to go to our fans or show the image like we agreed with any of the race stuff or any of the bad things." (Vintage Vinyl News)
The wait goes on for an announcement for 2012 Rolling Stones dates, with several ticket brokers jumping the gun and already advertising dates for shows in London and New York. To counter that, the Stones posted a message on its Twitter feed: "Dear fans, no Rolling Stones gigs have been confirmed or announced. Do not buy tickets from the SongKick website, or anywhere else."
Barry Gibb has announced his solo Mythology tour for next year. So far only three dates have been set for February in Australia, taking in stops in Sydney (February 8th), Melbourne (February 12th), and Brisbane (February 16th). There's been no announcement made yet regarding North American dates. The tour takes its name from the 2010 career-spanning Bee Gees and Andy Gibb box set and will feature Barry's eldest son Stephen and Maurice Gibb's daughter Samantha in the band.
Barry, who is the only Gibb brother alive, says that his brothers will be with him in spirit on the tour, and revealed to Australian TV the sadness he carries regarding their losses: "My greatest regret is that every brother I have lost was in a moment when we were not getting on. I don't know why, but I'm the last one standing. I will never be able to understand that because I'm the eldest. We just didn't agree on everything and that was the way life was. But boy did we have some fun." (Otago Daily Times)
