Four Month Old Child Among Four Killed in Madison County Tornado
The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the Madison County Town of Smithfield destroying homes. The twister claimed the life of four people including a 4 month child and her 35 year old mother.
Authorities say 35-year-old Kimberly Hillard, her 4-month-old daughter Paris Newman, 70-year-old Virginia Warner and 53-year-old Arnie Allen were killed when a home on Goff Road was destroyed by a tornado.
The National Weather Service says the tornado was at least an EF2, but could have been larger.
Governor Cuomo, who flew into the small rural town today, says a pattern of extreme weather has emerged in his three and a half years in office. There have been 11 federally declared disasters since Cuomo took office in 2011.
Barbara Watson with the National Weather Service says that the wind speeds reached well over 100 MPH based on damage assessments they are seeing.
