Owners of Coffee Mania Chain Opening Commercial Bakery in Homer
The owners of the popular Coffee Mania drive through coffee shops in Cortland and the Origins Cafe in Homer are expanding their business, they are opening their own commercial bakery in the Village of Homer.
Craig and Michelle Brooks who started out in Cortland with a single drive up coffee stand have now purchased the former Agway property at 45 James Street in Homer and plan to convert the building into a bakery to supply fresh baked goods to their three stores.
Michelle says the goal is improve the quality of their products and offer some new products, currently the business contracts with outside bakers to provide the tasty treats they sell.
The company owns a former rail depot on South Avenue where they roast all their own coffee beans.
Brooks would not rule out other options for the new commercial site, but was not ready to disclose any future plans, the new bakery will not be open to the public.
Brooks did says they would consider sales of their baked goods directly to other businesses that may be interested in carrying their products.
Brooks plans to have the new bakery up and running by this fall.
The Village Planning Board reviewed the project last night and gave their unanimous approval, the site is currently zoned to support the plan, if the company wants to do retail sales out the building they will have seek additional approvals.
