Dryden Crash Claims One Life, Sends Four to Hospital Including Two Kids
A Village of Cayuga Heights man was killed in a two car crash that sent four other people to the hospital as Sunday afternoon.
State Police say 31 year old Timothy Starr of Texas Ln. which is in Cayuga Heights was killed in the two car head on crash that occurred Sunday on Route 13 in Dryden.
State Police Sgt. Caroline Daley says the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m., yesterday just south of the State Police barracks in Dryden.
Sgt. Daley says 24 year old Rachelle Williams of Sylvan Beach was headed northbound on Route 13 with two children in her vehicle ages 5 and 7. Williams vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane and struck Starr's vehicle head-on.
The Dryden, Varna, and Freeville Fire Departments responded to the scene. It took rescuers about a half hour to free some of the victims from the wreckage.
Starr was pronounced dead at the scene his wife 30 year old Kelly Starr was seriously injured in the crash.
Williams and the two children were airlifted from the scene and were taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Starr was transported via ambulance.
Route 13 from George Road to Rt.366 was closed following the crash.
The initial investigation suggests that Williams may have been distracted by one of her young passengers which caused her to drift into the oncoming lane.
