A home just outside the Village of McGraw was heavily damaged by fire last night, multiple Cortland County Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
Just after 11 o'clock last night the Cortlandville Fire Department was called to a house fire at 3800 Clinton St.
Cortlandville Fire Chief Jared Gebel says, upon arrival crews found a two story single family home with heavy flames coming from the house.
Firefighters immediately called for mutual aid assistance from from the McGraw, Homer, Cincinnatus, Cortland, Marathon, Killawog, Dryden Fire Departments.
Two people were home when the fire started, they were able to get out unharmed, the property is listed under a David and Linda Conkrite. The home is assessed at $72 thousand dollars.
It took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control, they remained on scene until 3:30am this morning dousing hot spots and ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished. They were called back this morning after the fire rekindled itself.
The home is believed to be a total loss, the cause of the fire is unknown and is still being investigated by the Cortland County Fire Investigation Team.
The Preble, Willet, Groton and McLean Fire Departments provided back-up coverage for the fire department that were at the scene.The Cortland County Sheriffs Department and TLC ambulance also assisted at the scene.
