Cortland County to See Increase in Child Care Subsidies For Low Income Families

The state will provide more than $794 million in funding to assist low-income families with cost of childcare, Cortland County will receive just over $1 million dollars to assist local families.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced funding Wednesday for the Child Care Block Grant program. The state will provide over $794 million worth of child care subsidies this year , that's an increase of $55 million over last year. The additional funding represents a nearly 7 and a half percent increase from last year.
Cortland County will receive $1,062,880 to provide child care assistance to low-income families.
According to Cortland County Social Services Commissioner Kristen Monroe that's about $56 thousand dollars more than the previous years funding. Monroe estimates that will provide support for about 6-7 more children in local daycare programs per month, depending on the level of care and the number of children in the program.
