Cortland Residents Charged With Stealing $1900 in Public Assistance
Two Cortland residents are facing felony charges for stealing public assistance benefits.

Cortland County Sheriff's Deputies have charged 35 year old Heather Shortsleeve and 49 year old Arnold Shortsleeve both of 13 Randall St., Cortland with felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing, welfare fraud, and grand larceny. In addition both are charged with a misdemeanor count of conspiracy.
Investigators say from September of 2012 until January 2013 the pair failed to provide required information to the Cortland County Department of Social Services concerning their household income. As a result they received welfare benefits in excess of $1900 that they were not entitled to.

Both were arraigned in City Court and released, they are due back in court on  May 12th.
