Ithaca Police Investigating Following Death at Homeless Encampment
Ithaca Police are investigating after the body of a homeless person was located Wednesday in a known homeless encampment called the Jungle.
Around 5:20 Wednesday afternoon Ithaca Police Officers responded to a report of a person not breathing at the encampment which is located near the Cayuga Lake inlet.
The unidentified individual was was found dead, a cause of death has not been determined and and autopsy was planned.
Ithaca police say there does not appear to be foul play involved in the death.
This is the second death at the encampment in less than 6 months, back in December In a 53 year old man living there died after the tent he was staying caught fire.
Recently the City of Ithaca has been installing an access road to site in order to create access for 1st responders, during the fire rescuers had difficulty getting to the site. The City has worked to clear homeless people from the site with minor success.
