Tompkins County Jail and DSS Expansion Borrowing Clears Another Step
Tuesday, March 25, 2014
The Tompkins County Legislatures Budget committee has advanced a plan to borrow nearly $3 million dollars to expand the county jail and human services building.
The Tompkins County Budget, Capital and Personnel Committee voted yesterday in favor bonding for an over $900,000 expansion at the county jail and a nearly $1.7 million expansion at the county DSS building.
The jail construction would add seven beds for male inmates and new outdoor facility at the jail. The DSS expansion plans include a 1,655-square-foot, one-story addition and renovation of about 5,300 square feet of interior space to fit the county’s day reporting program.
The Legislature is expected to finalize the borrowing at its April 15th meeting.
