Cortlandville Firefighters responded to a house fire near the Cortland & Tompkins County line early this morning.
Around 1 o'clock this morning rescuers responded to a reported structure fire at 287 Old Groton Road, off Route 222.
On arrival firefighters found fire in the ceiling on the 1st floor of the 2 story home. Everyone had already evacuated the home.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, crews remained on scene for about an hour checking to make the fire had not spread.
The fire was contained to the 1st floor, parts of the 1st and 2nd floor of the home sustained smoke and water damage, the cost of the damage was not made available.
The Cortlandville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the City of Cortland, Homer, McGraw, Preble, Groton, McLean and Dryden Fire Departments, while the Virgil and Locke Fire Departments provided stand by coverage for the Cortlandville Fire Department. About 20 firefighters were on scene.
The Cortland County Fire Investigation Team is looking to determine the cause of the fire.
