Cortland Red Cross Assisting Family Following Fire in Cortlandville Today
A fire at a mobile home park in Cortlandville today has forced a family of four from their home.
Just before 8 o'clock this morning Cortlandville Firefighters, along with Homer, Dryden and Cortland City Rescuers responded to a reported trailer fire at 9 Kingsley Ave. which is located inside the Penguin Trailer Park.
When they arrived on the scene firefighters found a single wide trailer with flames showing from one end of the home and smoke throughout. The residents living there including a mother and her two sons were home when the fire started, they were able to get out unharmed.
Crews entered the mobile home and worked to knock the flames down, the fire was under control in about 15 minutes. The home sustained extensive fire damage to a bedroom and a bathroom, the costs of the damage was estimated at $20 thousand dollars.
The residents are being assisted by the Cortland chapter of the American Red Cross.
Virgil, Groton, McLean, and McGraw provided coverage while the other departments were on the scene, the cause of the fire is under investigation
