Tompkins Cortland Community College is hosting young burn victims this weekend at an event designed to help take their mind off their injuries and help them to simply be kids.
TC3 is recognizing National Burn Awareness Week by hosting a weekend of fun and games for those touched by fire.
The burn survivors range in age from 5 to 22, they will come from across New York will be gathering at the College to reunite with their fellow burn survivors and create new memories with students at the College.
According to Tc3 Communications professor and Burn Foundation Board member Chris Xaver, “Some of the kids involved have been burned over 90 percent of their body.” The guests will be treated to dinner Friday evening, there will be swimming in the campus pool, movies and music videos in the campus TV and radio studios.
The fun continues Saturday with breakfast and more activities.
The National Fire Protection Association reports that each year nearly 40,000 people are hospitalized due to burn-related injuries.
