The State University College of New York plans to expand its online course offerings at six colleges, including Finger Lakes Community College and Broome Community College.
SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher plans to make the announcement Tuesday in her annual address, along with pledging $4 million for high-tech research. Zimpher, who heads the 64-campus system, will also announce incentives to encourage students who pursue careers in math and science.
The “Open SUNY” program will provide eight online degree programs at six campuses.
SUNY already has 85,000 students enrolled in 12,000 online courses. But the new program will provide full degrees online and provide help from tutors and teachers through distance learning, SUNY officials said.
