Ithaca Police Arrest Suspect in Attempted Robbery
Ithaca police officers have arrested a Tompkins County man in connection with an attempted robbery Saturday night.
According to Ithaca Police, the suspect entered a convenience store in the 200 block of North Meadow street and approached the counter with a concealed object under his sweatshirt.
The man allegedly pointed the object at the cashier and threatened to shoot unless the cashier handed over money. In responded the cashier hit the panic alarm.,  the suspect ripped the alarm out of the cashier's hand and fled.
The suspect didn't get away with any merchandise or money.
Police said they chased the suspect who was later identified as 21 year old Steven Happel Brooktondale, as he was running from the scene.
Officers found him hiding in a dumpster and arrested him.
Happel was arraigned and sent to the Tompkins County jail.
