Former Cortland Shooting Victim Facing Heroin Possession Charges
A Cortland man who was arrested for driving drunk at the end of September is now facing drug charges, police say they found him with heroin during the stop.
20 year old Jevar Sturridge of 39 Cleveland Street, Cortland was arrested on a warrant Tuesday afternoon at 204 Main Street.
Sturridge is charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Back on September 28th, City Police stopped a vehicle on Tompkins Street, during that Sturridge who was driving was found to be under the influence of alcohol. During a search of the vehicle police found 20 packets of an unknown substance. After testing at a state crime lab it was determined to be heroin.
Sturridge was arraigned on the drug charge and sent to the County Jail with no bail, he’s due back in court today.
Sturridge was involved in a shooting incident on South Main Street back in September, he was shot in the forearm at 152 Main Street.
26 year old Shanessa Pittman of that address is accused of using a handgun to shoot Sturridge. Pittman was on the run following the shooting, she was arrested back in October by US Marshalls in New Port News, Virginia.
Pittman is facing prosecution on charges there; she is expected to be brought back to Cortland to answer the charges here as well.
