Holiday Sales Down 3% So Far
Monday, December 2, 2013
It seems that the gimmicks and sales aimed at bolstering the holiday shopping season were not as effective as retailers had hoped.
The National Retail Federation reports that so far shoppers are spending less on gifts than they did last year.
The trade group says a record 141 million people hit the stores and shopped online from Thanksgiving Day to Sunday.
Last year, 137 million people shopped during the four day stretch. But spending is expected to fall for the first time ever since the group began tracking in 2006.
It says over the four days this year, spending fell an estimated 2.9 percent.
