Dryden Organic Dairy Awarded $528k to Purchase Development Rights
A Dryden dairy farm is among 5 properties statewide that have been selected for a State Farmland Protection Grant. The money will ensure the farmland remains open for agriculture.
The state is spending $4.6 million to protect 2,200 acres of farmland in five counties.
Among the grant recipients is the Jerry Dell Farm in Dryden. The Dryden Dairy farm was granted $528,210 to secure the development rights on 419 acres.
The Dryden Dairy farm is the largest certified organic dairy farm in the northeast. The 700 head herd is rotationally grazed on more than 300 acres of pasture.
The farms selected for the grant program were rated on the viability of the agricultural land, development pressure, and impact of preservation on natural resources such as an ecosystems or wildlife habitat.
