Tuesday, November 5, 2013
Route 281 from Hooker Ave. to Route 41 in the Village of Homer was closed temporarily yesterday afternoon after a Homer school bus was involved in an accident with a water delivery truck.
Homer Schools Superintendent Nancy Ruscio says around 2:45 Monday afternoon, a Homer Central School bus was on Route 281 near Denny Jacks Barbeque Restaurant and was preparing to discharge a student. The bus driver activated the signal lights and had stopped when the driver of a Crystal Rock Water delivery truck failed to stop and rammed into the rear of the bus.
At the time of the crash there were 13 students on the full size bus, one student and the driver were taken to the Cortland Regional Medical Center as a precaution. The rest of the students were checked by a school nurse, some of the students were put on a different bus and others were picked up by parents.
Both the bus and the truck had to be towed from the scene. Homer Police are investigating; the driver of the truck faces a citation for following too closely.
