NY DMV Now Offering License Renewals & Other Services Online
Lines at the DMV may be getting shorter.

The state Department of Motor Vehicles is now offering expanded online services, including the ability to renew or replace your license.
DMV customers may now sign up for a free account by creating a username and password and entering the information on their licenses or ID cards and the last four digits of their Social Security number.
With an account, customers can register to vote, become an organ donor and buy a copy of their driver records. Customers can also sign up for email reminders about registration and inspection renewals.
Cortland County Clerk Elizabeth Larkin who heads up the local DMV office says even though she would prefer to see DMV customers come into the office so that Cortland County can retain more of the transaction fees, she recognizes that you can’t fight technology. Larkin says the County keeps 12% of all transactions done at the local DMV office, in the past all money from on-line or mail transactions went to the State, now the County will keep 4% of online transactions fees.
