Thursday, October 31, 2013
A fire at a building on the Cornell University campus Thursday morning prompted the building to be evacuated.
Around 9:30 this morning (October 31st) Ithaca firefighters responded to Goldwin Smith Hall for a report of a fire there.
The building filled with smoke, forcing people inside to evacuate.
An investigation by the Ithaca Fire Department determined the smoke was caused by an electrical fire in an elevator machinery room in the center of the building.
Crews quickly knocked down the fire and cleared the smoke.
There were no reported injuries and the building was reopened by 10:30 a.m..
