Rep. Hanna Among N.Y Lawmakers Furloughing Staff During Federal Shutdown

Amid the government shutdown that has closed federal parks, left states scrambling to fund the WIC program, and furloughed nearly a million workers some of New York’s federal representatives have closed their district offices and have sent their employees home.
Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have closed all their district offices in New York in response to the Congressional deadlock over a stopgap spending bill.
Schumer furloughed three-quarters of his staff, and Gillibrand furloughed 80 percent. Schumer also announced he will not take a paycheck during the shutdown.
Republican Congressman Richard Hanna who represents Cortland County in the house has furloughed half of his staff.
