Trial For Cortlandville Man Accused of Sex Abuse Begins Today
Jury selection is scheduled to get underway today in Cortland County Court in connection with a trial for a Cortlandville man who is accused of engaging in sexual contact with a seven year old child.
42 year old Shane Fournier of Lorraine Drive was arrested back in January; he’s accused of ordering a seven year old girl to perform a sex act on him. The alleged incident occurred at an undisclosed location on Mclean Road in the Town of Cortlandville, the victims parents contacted police.
A Cortland County Grand Jury indicted Fournier on four counts including criminal sex act, predatory sex assault against a child, sex abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child. Fournier has pled not guilty to all the charges.
County prosecutors offered Fournier a plea deal, if he pled guilty to the charge of predatory sex assault against a child they would have recommended 10 years to life in prison, Fournier has rejected that offer and is taking his case to trial. The victim in the case is expected to testify during the trial.
