Utica Boilermaker Race Security Will Include Bomb Sniffing Dog
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer has secured a bomb-sniffing K-9 unit to help bolster security at the upcoming Boilermaker Road Race in Utica.
The K-9, from the U.S. Marshal’s office in Rochester, is part of enhanced security at this year’s Boilermaker Road Race, scheduled for this Sunday July 14.
Additional security changes include limiting the start area of the 15k and 5k races to only those with running bibs, prohibiting the use of large bags and coolers, and enforcing a new limit of two and a half hours to complete the race.
The changes were prompted by the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15.
About 18,000 runners are expected to participate in the race.
