The 4th of July is synonymous with Fireworks and officials at all levels of Government want to remind everyone of the dangers of pyrotechnics and that it is illegal to possess them without permits in New York State
In separate press releases, both Cortland County Under-Sheriff Herb Barnhart the the New York State department of labor encourages everyone to leave fireworks displays to the professionals. They remind the public that even Sparklers are illegal in this state. When attending a display, it is important to respect barriers put up by authorities and leave pets at home.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, of the more than 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 30 percent of injuries involve the eyes and one-fourth of fireworks eye injuries result in partial loss of vision or blindness or limbs.
