Wet Weather Didn't Dampen Spirits at 2013 Cortland Relay For Life
Despite some wet weather Friday night the Cortland County Relay For Life pressed on and raised a substantial amount of money to continue the fight against cancer.
Amid some adverse weather conditions and a change of venue local relay teams were able to raise over $110 thousand dollars this year.
The Cortland County Relay for Life is now in its 12th year; Relay Chair Kelly Skinner says the mission to find a cure for cancer drives the event and its supporters.
While the fundraising was down slightly from last year’s relay, the event still had that upbeat and positive atmosphere that has come to characterize the local relay.
During the closing ceremonies the team captain for local relay team the Walkie Talkie’s announced that after 11 years of participating and raising funds the group is retiring, over the course of those 11 years the Walkie Talkie’s raised $200 thousand dollars for the relay.
Skinner says the relay organizers are working on some other fundraising initiatives, and may begin raising money for next year as soon as August. The location for next year’s relay has not yet been determined.
