Cortland County Relay For Life Continues Despite Soggy Forecast
Despite a few showers in the forecast the annual Cortland County relay for life will continue as planned this evening.
The annual relay for life helps raise funds to find a cure for cancer and also serves as an opportunity to celebrate those that are winning the fight against deadly disease. The event also remembers those that have lost the fight.
This year the Relay has relocated from the SUNY Cortland campus to the Cortland County fairgrounds due to construction at the college.
Last year 52 teams participated in the relay they raised $130 thousand dollars.
Tonight’s relay may be held inside the Cortland County Fair Grounds Agriculture building due to the wet forecast, teams will still be able to camp out, but space will be a bit tighter due to the indoor accommodations.
The relay kicks off at 6 o’clock with remarks by Cortland Mayor Brian Tobin; the flame of hope will be lit at 630, followed by the survivors lap ceremony. The relay runs all night with closing ceremonies at 6 o’clock Saturday morning.
